If you’re in poor health or have a disability, it can be hard to get around. And if you don’t have a car, or live outside town, getting to care appointments can be a challenge. That’s why dual health plans usually include transportation assistance. Dual health plans are for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. These plans include many extra benefits and features to help make life easier. You typically get a set number of one-way rides to health appointments at no cost to you.*

Dual health plans offer rides to plan-approved locations

While dual health plans may offer no-cost rides, you can’t go anywhere you want. For a ride to be covered, it has to be to or from a plan-approved location. It also has to be for taking care of a health care need.

Transportation coverage may include rides to:

Appointments with health providers like doctors and dentists

A pharmacy to pick up prescriptions and medical supplies

Adult day care and other community services

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available as needed

It’s easy to set up a ride

Rides for non-emergency needs are usually provided by service partners. Dual plan members simply call the service partner to set up a ride. You may be able to request a ride up to 1-3 days in advance.** They’ll take you where you need to go, and bring you home again.
